Geologic History
No history for Echo Canyon itself was found, but history for the National Monument was found, which is where Echo Canyon is located. The National Monument preserves three different groups of sediment and rock. The earliest rocks found there are Early to Middle
Proterozoic
gneiss and
schist
. On top of these, seperated by an angular uncomformity, are horizontally imbedded
Mesozoic
sedimentary rocks, which includes the cliff-forming
Wingate Sandstone
rock. On top of these includes various rocks such as
Quaternary
unconsolidated deposits such as
alluvium
,
colluvium
, and
dunes
. They are folded into various faults, such as the Redlands Thrust Fault. The National Monument is under the National Register of Historical places, do that it remains preserved and untouched.
